Netherlands Threatened Flooding, Residents Evacuated

The HAGUE -continuous Rain falling on the outskirts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, it is feared could trigger the occurrence of floods. Local government even ordered the evacuation of local residents.

Approximately 85 residents who lived in the village of Tolberter which the distance is approximately 160 kilometres from Amsterdam, asked for shelter to the safe place. Evacuation orders were issued after the storm struck the area.

Local authorities asked residents to voluntarily leave their agricultural land. It looks like the Government does not want to risk the Netherlands more following the rains that continued to hit. So reported Associated Press, Thursday (5/1/2012).

During the last few days, the northern Netherlands was indeed hit by heavy rain. While the wind wafts from the Northwest it seems further undermines the efforts of the authorities to pump water. This is certainly threatened levees.

Until now, the water is reported to have been cornucopia of embankment which protects 200 hectares of land Tolberter. According to the fire, when the embankment collapsed estimated 10 agricultural land and existing buildings will be about 40 destroyed by water.

Although the dike in Tolberter broken, is not as endangered as the dykes in other areas. Most of the embankment North region Tolberter is capable of pumping water out so that the threat of broken was thinning.

The bad weather that hit the local area, causing the airport Schipol cancels some flights on schedule. This is because strong winds that hit the terjangan.

The traffic control Netherlands (ANwB) has issued a warning to all road users, especially motorcyclists not to be on the road for several hours. Conditions strong winds seems like forcing them to issue a warning.
