Myanmar wants to make peace with Rebels Kachin

NAYPYIDAW- The Government of Myanmar has reportedly sent a delegation, to put an end to a conflict with ethnic Kachin rebels in the North of the country.

The Chairman of the delegation of the Government of Myanmar's Aung Thaung has left for Shan State Lashio to next traveled to China's Ruili border, for talks with the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO).

"We are trying to reach an agreement at this meeting. However it is difficult to predict whether we will succeed or not, "said Aung Thaung was quoted as saying The Nation, , Wednesday (18/1/2012).

Before conducting a dialogue with the ethnic Kachin rebel delegation, the Government had conducted a dialogue with rebel ethnic minority Karen National Union. This dialogue was agreed to a cease-fire.

In any negotiations, the Government delegation agreed to end the conflict with rebel groups. The rebels typically struggle to get autonomy in their region over the past six decades.

The Government of Myanmar had previously managed to produce a ceasefire Pact with the Shan State Army South and Chin National Army.

Associated with rebels from the ethnic Kachin, previously the Government had launched an offensive against the Group since last June. As a result of this attack is 60,000 civilians ousted from their settlement.

"Kachin people living in fear because of the presence of the army of Myanmar, the battle is in progress and heavy violations of human rights," said representative KIO.(rhs)
