NAYPYITAW- President of Myanmar's Thein Sein says, his Government will work hard in reform in order to convince the various parties that his country is committed to leading a country of democracy.

"There are more steps we should take. We must continue Our hard work because there are many out there who are skeptical and suspicious of our Government, "said the President of Myanmar's Thein Sein in the presence of Parliament marked the one-year term as President, replacing the military Junta as cited the Associated Press Thursday, (1/3/2012).

Since the leadership of Thein Sein, there have been changes dramatically in Myanmar that surprised many people. Some of them, Thein Sein carried release of political prisoners, signed a ceasefire with the rebels, applying the freedom of the press and open a dialogue with opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Added Thein Sein better changes also occurred in the field of law, economy and tourism as well as in the enhancement of the infrastructure for the poor citizens of the country.

"Under strict supervision from all over the world, we have opened the way for a democratic system in Myanmar. Democracy would be strengthened if all people can put aside differences and work together, "he added.

The United States and the European Union itself has applauded the developments that took place in Myanmar in the past year. They say, will carefully observe the electoral process which will take place in Burma in April. If the election goes smoothly then sanctions meted out against Myanmar would soon be repealed.

However, according to Human Rights Watch even though movement towards change and reform some of the ceasefire was reached with the rebels. However, the military still often abused their authority against civilians, including in the conduct of forced labor and sexual abuse cases.(rhs)
