YANGON -Myanmar will hold a general election (election) on April 1, 2012. Myanmar democracy leaders Aung San Suu Kyi will also participate in the election process.
The National League of democracy (NLD) led by Suu Kyi refused to participate in the 2010 elections. They do not approve of the election process, each of which is governed by a military junta. However, after a series of changes appear in Myanmar, NLD directly register himself to follow election 2012.
Suu Kyi is rumored to be in ran as a member of the Parliament of Myanmar. Election Commission Chairman Tin Aye of Myanmar, also said he would work hard to create the process free and fair elections. So as Reuters, proclaimed Saturday (31/12/2011).
Around 48 seats in the Parliament of Myanmar will be hotly contested, 40 is the lower House, six seats in the upper House, and two seats in the Regional Parliament. Suu Kyi will be vying for positions in the lower house in Kawhmu, which was his residence.
To date, Suu Kyi appear to be supported by many parties, including the Prime Minister of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra. Poling to predict support for Suu Kyi did not exist in Burma, however if Suu Kyi win, that event will be a pivotal moment for him.(rhs)
