BANGKOK -Truth for Reconciliation Commission of Thailand (TRCT) urge the Government to amend the Thailand Act to insult the Royal family of Thailand is currently continuing to reap criticism.
TRCT cast a letter to the Prime Minister so that the Government of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra immediately amend the legislation.
Under the Act, any person suspected of committing an affront to members of the Kingdom of Thailand as well as the King, Queen, or his descendants will be sentenced to prison terms of 15 years of age or older.
"It would be better if the punishment of violations of Article 112 of the CRIMINAL CODE to get a lighter sentence than ever," so the contents of the letter dilayangkan TRCT to Yingluck, AFPwas quoted as saying, Thursday (12/1/2012).
TRCT also urged Thailand to investigate the Government's first case of contempt that before bringing the suspects to the front of the Court. The letter also urged every citizen to participate are demanding amendments to a law that for the sake of peace and reconciliation process in Thailand.
Aside from the Interior, United States (U.S.) and the European Union and the United Nations (UN) also expressed concern over the existence of the Act of insult the King of Thailand.
In November, a 61-year-old grandfather jailed 20 years due to send SMS messages that are judged insulting the King of Thailand. Meanwhile, US citizens were also jailed on charges of the same.
Some observers have argued, the Government of Thailand led by Yingluck at all yet acted to address this case since they are sworn in.(AUL)
