China Must Give "Lessons" of the Philippines

-BEIJING A Government-owned media, urged that China drop sanctions against the Philippines.

It happened after the Philippines approved the request of the US who want to increase the number of its troops in that country.

The Philippines last Friday said it was planning to hold joint military exercises with the US more intensive.

The plan was welcomed by US as an attempt broaden its military strength in Asia.

Although the Chinese Government has not issued an official statement, but a media China Global Times known as supporters of the Government's policy says in his report, that the Chinese Government should stop its economic activities with the countries of Southeast Asia.

Not only that, the Chinese Government is also urged to reconsider economic relations between China and its neighboring countries.

"It will demonstrate to neighbouring countries, that siding with the US is not the right choice," said Global Times in his report as cited RNW, Week, (31/1/2012).

China, Taiwan, as well as with some other ASEAN countries like the Philippines, Viet Nam, Brunei, and Malaysia has since long involved a conflict of mutual claims in the South China Sea. The South China Sea known region is one of the important shipping lanes and has a petroleum deposit in large numbers.

During this time, the Philippines and Viet Nam have repeatedly complained of aggressive actions against the China region. A ship of the Navy (AL) China reportedly had opened fire a warning to fishermen in the Philippines. The incident sparked concerns related to the emergence of political and military power in the region.

The US military presence in Manila alone but is an attempt to anticipate China's military strength, but also to increase the influence of the u.s. military in Asia.(rhs)
