-TAIPE Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou won the presidential election held on Saturday (2/1/2012). The President's victory ushers in a period to two Ma. The reelection of Ma not only greeted joyously by his supporters but also by the Chinese Government.
"China will be very pleased to welcome this victory. Beijing does not need to use the missiles but they can buy Taiwan through business. Taiwan business community who have placed their investment in China is very supportive of Ma's victory, "said the observer international relations Yen Chen Shen of Taiwan's National Chengchi University was quoted as saying The Washington Post, , Week (3/1/2012).
Ma is derived from the Kuomintang nationalist party during his campaign promising a more harmonious relationship with China. This is contrary to its competitors Tsai Ing-wen of the Democratic Progressive Party, which supports Taiwan's independence.
Although official results have not been announced but Election Commission says Taiwan, nationalist party leader Ma 51.6 percent of the vote won in the elections while Tsai Ing-wen through the Progressive Democratic Party get 45,6% of the vote.
Beijing and Washington to monitor strictly the election Taiwan. For the Beijing Ma is the best candidate to return under the influence of Taiwan shepherded China. Analysts say, Ma in Taiwan election victory would further sharpen differences in the attitude of China to the United States.
The u.s. alone declared neutral in elections in Taiwan. However, AS stressed, it is important for Uncle Sam to keep the relationship between China and Taiwan as the key to peace and regional economic development.(rhs)
