RI & The US Continue To Work Together Against HIV/AIDS

JAKARTA – Government of Indonesia and United States (U.S.) reiterated its commitment to fight HIV/AIDS. This commitment again asserted in conjunction with the celebration of WORLD AIDS Day December 1, which falls today.

Today used to commemorate the 30 million victims around the world who had lost his life due to HIV/AIDS since the disease is dangerous it emerged 30 years ago. Through this warning, the US and Indonesia to continue to strengthen the commitment to help the 34 million people in the world that currently suffer from a disease of HIV/AIDS.

"The US Government continues to be committed to partner with the Government of Indonesia and the local communities to tackle the spread of HIV/AIDS.Such cooperation is carried out by the Ministry of health, national AIDS Relief Commission and various civil society organizations, "continued the statement.

Further, the US Embassy stated that his Government continued to provide relief to the sufferers and the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The US Government has initiated various activities that will support and strengthen the ability of the Government of Indonesia in tackling the epidemic.

How does as it builds the ability of non-governmental organizations to provide services for their patients, and contribute funding through Indonesia Partnership Fund belonging to the National Commission on AIDS Relief.

In 2011, the U.s. Government has provided a contribution of USD13 million or approximately Rp117,9 billion (USD 9.070 per USD) in the form of bilateral assistance in support of HIV programs in Indonesia.

In addition to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (Global Fund to fight AIDS, TUBERCULOSIS and Malaria) has provided assistance amounting to approximately USD27 million or Rp244,8 billion to Indonesia for the response to HIV, in which the US accounts for about 30 percent of all global funds.

President Barack Obama has launched an ambitious initiative called Globah Health Initiative which aims to support programs that are coordinated in order to reduce the number of casualties due to a variety of health threats, including HIV/AIDS.

This initiative was developed from the success of the program of the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR or the US President's emergency plan For AIDS Relief) and world health programs.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and President Barack Obama has been to strengthen cooperation in the fight against diseases HIV/AIDS in Indonesia. Pass the U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership, reaffirms the commitment to continue to work together in achieving the common goals that drive the spread of HIV/AIDS.
