The Filipino flood victims Celebrate Christmas in Exile

MANILA -tens of thousands of flood victims due to the storm Washi are lining up to get your Christmas food in refugee centers on Sunday (25/12/2011).

Eight days after a Flash flood swept area of Mindanao in the southern Philippines, around 328 thousand people relying on emergency assistance and approximately 69 thousand live in exile.

The head of the village of Aurelio Magaro joined with other victims of the hamlet of 422 Digkilaan for lining up food in the school grounds which had been flat due to the meluapnya River Mandulog.

"We have a sad Christmas this year, but we hope it can be immediately addressed," says Magaro as reported The Straits Times, Sun (25/12/2011).

Magaro lost 15 relatives who become victims killed in the tragedy of Hurricane Washi.

As a result of the tragedy of Hurricane Washi around 996 people were declared missing and 1,080 others declared dead. If the State does not then it is feared the death toll could touch the number more than 2,000 inhabitants.(rhs)
