Taiwan hit by Quake 6.5 SR.

TAIPEI -Quake rocked Taiwan today. According to the Weather Bureau of Taiwan, an earthquake struck the northeastern Taiwan with force reached 6.5 on the richter scale (SR).

As reported by the Associated Press, Friday (30/10/2011), although the strength of the quake is big enough, there has been no report of casualties or damage caused by the earthquake.

Estimates of the strength of the quake, which was issued by the Taiwan is different from the forecasts issued by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). USGS assess the strength of the quake reached 5.5 SR.

The quake was centered approximately 141 its own kilometres east of Keelung, Taiwan. Although the earthquake occurred at sea, there has been no word on the dangers accompanying tsunami.

Bencanan earthquake is indeed quite common in Taiwan. But the quake in the area generally do not have great power.

But in 1999, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake earlier SR shook Taiwan, killing more than 2,300 people. The quake, could be said to be one of the big earthquake struck Taiwan ever.
