KUALA LUMPUR -for the sake of protecting women, Malaysia launched a special taxi for females. Car taxis are driven by women and is aimed at avoiding cases of sexual abuse.
As many as 50 female taxi driver deployed in the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's Government has plans to add to a fleet of taxis that up to 400 cars.
Deputy Minister for women's empowerment, Family, and Community development in Malaysia Heng Seai Kei says, take a taxi it will make women feel safe in traveling. In addition, the CAB will also create new jobs for every woman who wants Malaysia to work as a taxi driver.
"We hope, the number of crimes against women such as rape and robbery in a taxi on the wane," said Heng, as AFP, was quoted Monday (28/11/2011).
In 2010, Malaysia also launched a special bus that operates in some of the women's route in Kuala Lumpur. The existence of these buses also aims to avoid cases of sexual abuse against women who are on public transport.(rhs)
