JAKARTA -Directorate of Technical cooperation, Information and Public Diplomacy Ditjen, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Centre for disaster mitigation and Tsunami Research, the University organized an International Workshop of Shah Kuala on Disaster Risk Management in Banda Aceh on 23-28 October 2011.
The workshop was attended by 40 participants from 13 countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, Chile, Fiji, India, Laos, Maldives, Myanmar, Pakistan, Samoa, Sri Lanka, and Viet Nam includes 2 (two) attendance Indonesia.
Customs information and Public Diplomacy, Andri Hadi, and former head of the Agency's Implementing agencies, Rehabilitation and reconstruction of Aceh Nias, Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, also present at the opening of the workshop.
The workshop begins with mangrove planting activity on the beaches of Ulee Lheue on October 23, 2011, followed by all participants, the local Government of Banda Aceh, environmental activists, students, and communities around the coast.
"Indonesia's geographical position on the ring of fire series, resulting in Indonesia are prone to natural disasters including earthquakes and volcanic eruptions," clearly Kemlu in the description of the frompress, Thursday (29/10/2011).
Indonesia's experience in dealing with the impact of natural disasters allowing Indonesia has experience in disaster risk mitigation, and development efforts has led disaster management system.
Experience such as the 2004 earthquake in Aceh which was followed by a large tsunami that struck the West coast of Aceh, the earthquake in Yogyakarta and West Sumatra tsunami which wiped out the southern coast of West Java, as well as the eruption of the Merapi mountain in 2010 which resulted in the fall of a large number of casualties surely can be a valuable lesson in disaster management.
Through the International Workshop on Disaster Risk Management in Aceh, expected participants can share their knowledge and experiences on disaster risk management and disaster preparedness, as well as mutual introduced local wisdom in the face of the threat of natural disasters.
Indonesia will continue to be committed to enhancing international cooperation through the sharing of knowledge and experience in dealing with various forms of natural disasters to a fellow developing countries, so as to increase alertness and preparedness in the face of disasters as well as speed up recovery efforts after the devastating disaster.(faj)
