JAKARTA – Ambassador of the United States (U.S. Ambassador) to David Lee Carden confirms Asean, the development of democratization in Myanmar should do the job.
"Myanmar has to evolve, we want to see Myanmar citizens are sovereign. We always welcome the developments in Myanmar, "said Ambassador Cardene, in the Office of the US Embassy in Jakarta, Saturday (10/11/2011).
Myanmar in Asean of leadership in 2014 will also affect diplomatic relations the United States and Myanmar. Cardene pun said, Myanmar and the United States relationship will improve if Burma continue to make progress in terms of democratization.
US President Barack Obama also plans to send Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Burma in December, to witness the process of reform in Myanmar.
Clinton's visit will be the first u.s. high official visit in 50 years in Myanmar. Clinton will review how far the seriousness of the Myanmar in making changes.
Asean Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan also said Clinton's visit will be, very useful for Myanmar that was isolated by neighboring countries.
Until now, Myanmar had demonstrated the process of transition to democracy with the freeing of political prisoners and democracy leaders Aung San Suu Kyi. The Party of Aung San Suu Kyi even allowed to follow the electoral process that will soon be held.(rhs)
