Khamenei: Iran Could Have Been Led By PM

TEHRAN -spiritual leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, when the parliamentary system can work effectively, Iran could just change the parliamentary system of Government presidensialnya being led by a Prime Minister (PM).

In his speech in front of the students of the University in Kermanshah Province, Iran, Khamenei stressed that, whatever form of Government of Iran, the Government must be based on Islamic principles. Iran's Government system may only be modified in accordance with the values of the Islamic revolution of Iran in 1979.

"The future that changes will still keep the Islamic system of Government," said Khamenei, quoted Trendlike, Tuesday (17/10/2011).

At the beginning of September, one member of Parliament of Iran Hamidza Katuzian said, they do not need the President because there is already a spiritual leader of Iran (Wilayatul Faqih).

However, one of the officials of Iran Abbasali Kadkhudai commented by saying, the Parliament of Iran do not have the right to eliminate the presence of the President and replace it with the Prime Minister.

Iran's President is elected for a term of four years and will only be allowed to extend his term for another priode when he was re-elected as President. When usulah from Khamenei accepted, members of Parliament Iran would have the authority to appoint a Prime Minister.(rhs)
