Russia Urges US Sign Extradition Treaty

WASHINGTON -In his visit to Washington, Justice Minister of Russia Alexander Konovalov urgent United States (u.s.) to sign a bilateral extradition treaty or at least merged with the existing international conventions.

"We propose US to sign bilateral agreements on the extradition of prisoners and the repatriation of prisoners. Or second choice for US is to join the Convention, "said Konovalov as publicly searchable PanArmenian Friday, (10/2/2012).

Russia-US relationship was heating up as a result of legal proceedings conducted against a number of citizens of the U.S. Russia, including the judicial process against Viktor Bout, who was captured in Thailand in March 2008. Bout was arrested in an operation US intelligence agents and was then extradited by November 2010.

Meanwhile, a citizen of Russia Vladimir Zdorovenin, other suspects allegedly involved in crimes of cyberspace to be extradited by the middle of last year from Switzerland to the u.s.. The process of extradition was carried out without prior notice to the parties of Russia.

"Practices such as these really can't we receive. Should not have people kidnapped in the territory of a third country, they should not be extradited illegally. Legal instruments and mechanisms should be used, and we will discuss further on this issue with us, "said Konovalov.

Further admitted his side had been since Konovalov two years ago raised this issue during the first visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Justice Russia to the us. But the proposal that Russia still denied us.(rhs)
