UN HUMAN RIGHTS Commission Urges Protection Of Journalists

NEW YORK -Journalism is now known as one of the most dangerous professions in the world. HUMAN RIGHTS Commission United Nations (UN) affirm, currently needed a strategy to protect the lives of the journalists.

"Think about an act of the United Nations to ensure the safety of journalists and to stop the immunity from any person who threatens their lives (journalist)," said UN HUMAN RIGHTS Commission Chairman Navi Pillay, Guardianwas quoted as saying, Friday (2/10/2011).

The statement comes after the incident Pillay killing journalists happens every weekend. Press watchdog based in New York, Committee for the Protection of Journalists (CPJ), reported 44 cases of killing of journalists in this world.

On this week, a reporter for radio Abiaziz Ahmed Aden killed in bomb blast in Somalia and an online media editor Faisal Qureshi was tortured and murdered in Pakistan.

Pillay also acknowledge the work of journalists, will pass the message in the body of the United Nations Educational, scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), her immediate focus on journalists who report on the situation and conditions in the Middle East and North Africa.

Pillay said the journalist is someone who was in the midst of conflict and peace. They reported human rights violations and bad governance in each country. They also contribute in raising awareness of the whole people against the issue of human rights.

The Chairman of the UN HUMAN RIGHTS Commission also urged each State to give freedom of expression in order to protect journalists-jurnalisnya.
