RI Was Elected As A Member Of Ecosoc

NEW YORK -Indonesia was elected into membership of the UNITED NATIONS economic and Social Council (Ecosoc) for the period 2012-2014. Indonesia had the support of the largest voice among representatives of the Asian region.

Passing the election by voting in secret in the plenary session of the General Assembly on 24 October 2011 in New York, United States (u.s.), Indonesia received 191 votes from the 193 Member States of the UNITED NATIONS, beyond the acquisition of India which won 189 votes and Japan with 186 votes.

Indonesia's Foreign Minister, the number of Marty Natalegawa said the vote results to representatives of the Asia's largest affirms the important role of the world's recognition of Indonesia in the discussion and resolution on the agenda of the economic and social development in the region and at the global level.

"This reflects the high appreciation and belief from the international community of the role of leadership, ability and commitment of Indonesia to promote the strengthening of international policy in the field of economic, social, educational, and health," said Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa in the description of the fromreleases, Tuesday (25/10/2011).

Indonesia had previously been a member of the Ecosoc as much as 10 times, last in the period 2007-2009. In ECOSOC formally there is no fixed membership as in the UN Security Council (UNSC).

But in fact, other than China ever absent from 1961-1969, the membership of the United States, United Kingdom, France and Russia take place continuously from 1947 until now even though through the electoral process as well as other members of Ecosoc.

Representation of the various organs of the UNITED NATIONS in Indonesia, either in the capacity of national and personal capacity in Indonesia, in addition to the membership of the expert for the furtherance of national interests, as well as the strengthening kridensial (credentials) Indonesia as a key State in the region in the settlement of a wide range of global challenges.

Earlier in May 2011, Indonesia was re-elected to membership of the Council of HUMAN RIGHTS with a number of support votes.
